Chapter 9 review

A Rubric For Evaluation By Audience.
In chapter 9 it talks about a teacher named Barb who had her students use an evaluation rubric to evaluate another classes work of a website about Canada. Instead of having the students work individually, Barb divided the students up into groups of two. In grouping the students up, Barb was making it easier for her students because it was their first time using a rubric. This technique was a good way to get her students to realize what they should make sure they do or don't do in their websites. Having students use rubrics for evaluating fellow student work is a very effective method used to get students to learn more about specific projects. It brings awareness to the students in giving them the sense of what future projects should contain within them and how they should be presented. Rubrics are a great way for teachers to evaluate their students work and is also a great way for students to evaluate each others work. A rubric is like a guide line in what a teacher, or student in some cases, is looking for. Teachers using rubrics is a very effective and fair way for a teacher to grade his/her students.

The image above is a good example of a rubric that would be used for younger children. This rubric is simple for the young students but also thorough in what the teacher is grading by. Using a rubric is a simple way to keep track of every individual students work. A rubric is also great for fellow students to evaluate each others work. Teachers should use rubrics in teaching and grading. I believe it is a very effective method to use in grading and also in helping the students become aware of what the teacher is looking for and how they can make their own projects good.

Chapter 8 review

Organizing and Saving Large Image Collections.
Many teachers today take a lot of digital pictures of class field trips and projects. Finding specific images can be time consuming. Teachers could spend hours looking for one photo when they could use that time spent for other things, such as, preparing for the next lesson. Certain tools can be used to locate a specific image within hundreds or even thousands of images. These tools not only help teachers but students as well. They can help users with finding, organizing and annotate within large image collections. If a teacher puts the photos that were taken in labeled files with the activity and the date, than it will aid the teacher and the students in finding specific photos. In finding these photos quicker, the teacher and/or the student will be able to complete tasks, that may consist of using specific photos, a lot quicker. Searching, browsing and organizing images will be much easier for anyone using specific programs made just for images. The image bellow shows an example of different folders that contain photos within the picture document. These folders are all labeled differently that way the user can tell where to look for certain pictures.

Using these advantages of tools for image savings is a very good way to keep images in an organized, easy to find, area for any computer user. I think that This program and many others like it are easy to use and make life a lot easier. A teacher should always be prepared. With a program like this one, a teacher is preparing his/her self for present and future activities. In having images saved in specific files a teacher is preventing a future mix up from happening as well as saving precious time that could be used more efficiently. It is a very good program that all teachers have a program that helps them organize and save large image collections.

Chapter 7 review

Embellished Documents
Embellished documents are great to use in teaching methods because they have important information as well as pictures which makes the page more interesting. Pictures also give the student and the teacher a visual image for what is trying to be explained or taught. Students can even add sound and video to an embellished document as well. If an embellished document does include sound or video than the document needs to be viewed on a computer so that the students and the teacher can hear the sound and the see the image that helps teach the students more effectively. If it only includes text and pictures than it can simply be printed out on paper. If it is printed out than it can be handed to the students so they can follow along with the presentation or one does not have to do a presentation and can just pass out the material for students to read instead. Embellished documents are a great way for teachers to teach with and also a good homework assignment for students as well. Embellished documents can be used for many different subjects as well. This is a very effective teaching method. It contains both educational and entertaining parts.

I believe that embellished documents are a great way to teach. It can be very interesting for students and teachers. You can use embellished documents for many things. A teacher can have the students make one individually or have them work in groups. The teacher can also use embellished documents to teach lessons as well. The photo above is an example of an embellished document. This embellished document is a book with an image on the left side that catches the readers eye. It makes the document much more interesting. From looking at embellished documents like this makes me want to read them to find out how that was incorporated into the document and why. It is a entertaining way to teach and it is a good method for teachers to use.

Chapter 4 review

Instructional Software
Instructional software is a method used to help students comprehend information more effectively. It is a way to teach students in a way that keeps them interested in learning. Instructional software is different games and activities on a computer program that teachers use in teaching the required subjects. These games include activities that are not only educational but also entertaining. If learning is entertaining to the student than the student will want to learn and therefore will. Instructional software also includes tutorials, simulations, drill-and-practice applications and exploring environments. These instructional software examples are all used on the computer by the student. A simulation is a very popular use of instructional software. Many teachers use simulations in place of real, for example, frog dissection's. The simulation gives the student all the tools necessary for the dissection, allowing the student to perform the dissection process without using a real live frog. In using instructional software a teacher is making the learning process for a student more fun and entertaining. Many teachers should use instructional software. There are many reasons why they should use instructional software.

I think that instructional software in classrooms is very educational and gives the students something to look forward to. Using this software creates a comfortable environment that is both educational and entertaining. Teachers are looking for ways to teach their students that will be most effective for their students in actually learning something. They are wanting students to use their long term memory in learning. One way teachers can accomplish this is by using methods that keep their students interested in learning and get them to actively learn something. Instructional software is a very good way in accomplishing long term memory.

Chapter 3 review

Word Processing
Using a word processing program in education can be very beneficial to the student and the teacher. Word processing is a great program that allows students to type their work, whether it be a book report or a story, on a page within the program. After typing their work, students can use a spell check or an electronic thesaurus within the word processing program. These convenient tools make the process of learning much easier and saves a lot of time for the student and the teacher. Teachers can use this program when creating their lesson plans or writing a professional letter. The word processing pro
gram can be used for many things. It is a wonderful tool and a very convenient way to learn and enhance students technology and writing skills. The program helps students with sentence structure as well; although, some of the time the program may think a sentence is wrong but it isn't. For this reason it is important that the student proofreads his or her work. Word processing programs aren't miracle workers, but they are very helpful. A teacher must know how to use a word processor program in order to teach these skills to his or her students.

Word processing programs have helped me a lot with many school activities. At times they can be confusing, however, but if a teacher makes the effort to familiarize themselves with a word processing program than the teacher can help the students with how to use this program. It is important for a teacher to know how to use this program and many other programs so they can effectively teach their students. I am very grateful that we as students and teachers have a program such as the word processing program to aid us in our fast moving society.

Chapter 2 review

Meaningful Learning
Meaningful learning is when students learn new experiences that relate to past events. These past events help students store new events because of the similarity. If a student is to use meaningful learning he or she must be motivated. A teacher can help motivate students by creating a comfortable environment for them to do work in. A teacher can, also, make sure the student is not over whelmed or stressed. It is a g
ood idea for the teacher to give assignments that the student can do that have personal relevance. Meaningful learning should not be taken as just memorizing. It should be taken as having a purpose. Students should look at it as wanting to use meaningful learning to actually learn something. The leaning is not just memorizing; meaningful learning has a purpose. It has meaning. It is important for teachers to understand this and encourage meaningful learning in their classroom. Teachers can get students to use meaningful learning by encouraging students to ask questions and be active with the activities within the classroom and outside the classroom as well. Meaningful learning makes the learning process for students and the teaching process for teachers a lot easier.

I think that meaningful learning is a very important method of learning that all teachers should use and encourage. Meaningful learning really gets the students involved in activities and allows them to memorize things better when they are actively involved. In the picture above the students are using meaningful learning by doing an activity that creates a fun environment. Meaningful learning makes learning more interesting for the students.

Chapter 1 review

Teacher Preparation
Introducing technology is not as simple as it may seem. One can not simply provide technology for their students to use. A teacher must make sure the student knows how to use it as well. The students have to be willing to learn about technology and the use of it for the teacher to effectively teach their students. A teach must be prepared to teach a student as well. Being prepared involves of knowing the functions and how to use the different technology a teacher is using in teaching his or her students. A teacher must know what the most effective way to introduce this technology to the students. Teachers must also come to realize the importance of technology in today's demanding society. The future of students knowledge of technology and other crucial skills are in the hands of teachers'. Many teachers use very little, if any, technology in their classrooms and teaching assignments today. A teacher needs to make sure that he or she appreciates the many different technology based learning programs and the use of them. In knowing these skills a teacher can skillfully and effectively teach these skills to their students.

I believe it is very important for teachers to understand the importance of technology. I also believe that it is important not only for them to acknowledge technology but for them to know how to use it effectively. When a teacher knows how to use technology than they can teach it to their students without having to learn it as they teach it. In the image above the teacher knows how to use a projector. If she did not know how to use it than she would not be able to teach the students in a fun way. The students seem to enjoy the unique screen that most of them, being so young, probably have not seen before. It makes the learning process for the students much more enjoyable and makes learning in general more fun.
